Kapila Dahanayake, Emeritus Professor at the Department of Geology of the University of Peradeniya says that the risk of the Hantana Mountain Range experiencing a landslide is quite low.
However, authorities took measures to evacuate 46 families residing close to the Hantana Mountain Range after it was identified as an area prone to landslides. The evacuees are currently being sheltered at the Uduwela Sri Vani Tamil School in Hantana. The authorities took the measures to evacuate the residents in the area due to the appearance of cracks in the area.
